5 Quick Tips to Prepare for Birth This Week
Preparing for birth can feel overwhelming, but taking small, intentional steps each week can make a big difference in helping you feel more confident. Here are five quick and simple ways to prepare for birth this week that won’t take too much of your time but will leave you feeling more prepared and ready.
1. Review Your Birth Plan
Take 10 minutes to sit down and review your birth plan. Are all your preferences still accurate? Have you discussed them with your provider? If you haven’t created a birth plan yet, download my free birth plan template to get started. It’s a great way to clarify your wishes and ensure everyone on your birth team is on the same page.
2. Pack Your Hospital Bag
Packing your hospital bag doesn’t need to be stressful. Use my hospital bag checklist to guide you. Focus on the essentials: a comfortable outfit, toiletries, snacks, and items to help you relax. Pro tip: Pack a separate bag for your partner or support person so they’re ready too.
3. Practice Breathing Techniques
Labor can be intense, but practicing simple breathing techniques can help you stay calm and focused. Try this: Inhale deeply for four counts, hold for two counts, and exhale for six counts. Spend just five minutes a day practicing, and you’ll feel more prepared to use these tools during labor.
4. Set Up a Postpartum Support Plan
Birth is just the beginning. Think about what support you’ll need once your baby arrives. Who can help with meals, errands, or your other kids? Make a short list of people to call on and let them know how they can support you. A little preparation now can make the postpartum period much smoother.
5. Spend Time Connecting with Your Partner
Labor and birth are team efforts, and your partner plays an important role. Spend some time this week talking about your birth preferences, any fears you’re experiencing, and how they can best support you during labor. This connection will make you feel more supported and aligned as you head into birth.
These small but meaningful steps can help you feel more prepared and confident as you get closer to meeting your baby. What will you tackle first this week? Let me know by tagging me on Instagram @momentumbirth to share your progress!
